The "Audiovox D1210 DVD Player" comes with a massive 12.1 inch screen that makes it one of the largest on the market. This particular model (D1210) from Audiovox has been out on the market for about 3 years and has dropped in prices quite substantially when it first came out...you can now pick it up for about $300 from a number of stores.

Best things about this unit:

screen size
detachable speakers
surround sound output
connects to cable or antenna for TV viewing

Some of the downsides:

few people have complained that the unit heats up quite a bit
some have had issues with dead pixels

Overall if you need a big screen portable dvd player then the Audiovox D1210 is likely a pretty good match for what you're looking for.

The pl607 dvd player portable progressive scan is one of those, you get what you paid for items...my opinion only.

Numerous times on this blog I've mentioned the fact that, if you spend a few bucks you aren't going to get a lot. Every review I've gone through on the Mustek PL607 has either mentioned in some format, "it's barebones but what I could afford" or "it hasn't work all that well". Scares me off in a hurry when I read or hear comments like that.

So, what does barebones mean, well the portable player has minimal buttons on the unit...basically stop and play. So that means if you lose the remote for this 7" screen from Mustek (PL607), you really lose the ability to move around and funtion within a dvd.

Positives about the unit are the wide-screen (meaning you watch the movie in the theatre format, not adjusted for TV viewing) and the unit plays all types of file formats.

One other thing I should mention, the "Mustek PL607 dvd portable player" only has one headphone jack, so unless you get a spliter...makes it tough for more than one person to watch a movie quietly.

Portable DVD Players - What's Best?

I'm a fan of portable dvd players - try to add some value to your hunt for an acceptable unit to purchase.

For most of us we want the good name brands:
Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba, etc.

But I'm finding more and more that there really isn't much difference between brands these days. Nobody has a great portable dvd player that seems to stick heads and tails above the competitors players.

Obviously you get what you pay for, spend little and you don't get the best quality unit on the market, but most of them still do a decent job.

I'm waiting for someone to throw an awesome portable dvd player on the market that's just going to blow everybody else away...so far it hasn't happened, at least not in my opinion.

With the evolution of MP4 players, XBox units, laptops, I doubt it'll be long before we have everything wrapped up in one fancy little unit that'll keep us happy 'til our eyes burn for days from the constant viewing.

Just waiting for something to make smile big.

Mintek MDP-1060 Portable DVD Player

If you're looking for a large, clear screen for viewing .... then the Mintek MDP-1060 dvd player may be right for you.

From all the reviews and research I've looked at users are happy with the viewing screen and the fact that the screen doesn't blur out on angles (nice, if there are more two people watching a flick).

A major drawback on the Mintek 1060 portable dvd player is the fact that some people say you either get one that works really well....or you end up buying a dude. A number of users have complained that the unit just doesn't work well, others say it's awesome for the price.

The idea of buying something that doesn't work....well...isn't exactly a great selling point.

So, from what I've seen and read, I think you should keep on looking for a better quality portable dvd player than the Mintek MDP-1060 portable dvd player....just doesn't sound like it'll be "all that you hoped for".

Price by the way for the Mintek 1060....usually around the $250-300 mark.

"Large Screen Portable DVD Players"

If you've ever had the chance to watch a movie on a - large screen portable dvd player - you know that it adds alot of atmosphere compared to watching on a 5 inch screen.

Just like watching a good movie or sports event on a big screen tv, seems to add life and excitement, the same can be said with a large screen portable player - way more fun than the small screens of older dvd players.

There are more and more large screen portables on the market all the time, they aren't as big as laptop screens but 11 and 12 inch screens are starting to show up....if you can afford one, I say go for it.

Cheapest Portable DVD Player

So if you really want to hunt down the "cheapest portable dvd player" possible....

....here are a few suggestions.

Many of the big box stores do offer low-end portable dvd players for sale. Not that they all suck in quality, but definitely really cheap dvd players aren't even in the same league as a high quality player....but take a good look at what they offer. It's best if they actually have some floor models you can try out....test the sound quality and the viewing angles out, to make sure they'll be sufficient.
You could look for a used portable player on places like ebay, make sure the model you look at has positive reviews on it. You do take a risk buying on ebay, especially when dealing with used electronics. If you do go this rout in looking for the cheapest portable player possible, try to find a seller that offers a guarantee of some type, that the unit will function fully upon arrival.
Now in my opinion, the best place to find the "cheapest" unit possible, would be tigerdirect.com or tigerdirect.ca depending on where you live. They have great prices on all types of electronics, computers, laptops, and much more. Check them out.

Remember buying the cheapest portable dvd unit won't always put you ahead, especially if you end up with a portable dvd player that doesn't suite your needs or always needs repairs.

Portable DVD Players VS Laptops

Astar PD-3020 7" Portable DVD Player

Recently did my homework on the "Astar PD-3020 7" Portable DVD Player
"....for the cheap price most comments on this unit were fairly positive...I didn't find a lot of other negative comments.

This Astar dvd player comes with a 7 inch screen which is good size for most situations. It'll play all types of disc formats...so no issue there. This isn't bulky unit at about 4 pounds.

Did read of one user who had the Astar PD-3020 Portable DVD Player who said the video input didn't work great for them. I can't even remember if I've ever used the video input on our portable dvd player...so for most users I don't think this will be an issue, because chances are you won't use it very often.

So price wise, you're probably looking at about $100 to $120 for a new Astar PD-3020 dvd player, which is about as low priced as you can find for a new portable player.

My opinion...I don't think I would hesitate getting one of these units, it's not like you've spent hundreds on it and most reviews sound fairly positive.

Finding a "discount portable dvd player" is great, but you got to make sure that you buy a player with some quality.

I don't know how many times I've heard owners of portable dvd players say that their unit has:

--crappy sound
--can't see the picture well at angles
--battery sucks

I'm all for finding a good discount on electronics like most others, but there's no point in buying a portable player that annoys you and doesn't get used.

One place I think has great deals on discount portable dvd players is tigerdirect.com or tigerdirect.ca if you're in Canada.

Good prices and most of their stuff is decent quality.

9 inch panasonic portable dvd player - LA95

The portable player unit from Panasonic has some real positive reviews on it from what I've read.

The 9 inch Panasonic - LA95, has a good sized screen, looks great and plays almost all types of discs that you would want or care to play.

The negatives I've heard on this unit are that the screen although big, doesn't always give off great clarity...not my experience just a review I've read. Take it with a grain off salt.

Panasonic also makes another 9 inch screen unit, the "Panasonic PalmTheater DVD-LS90". The nice thing about this unit is that it comes with a pivoting screen mount, which comes in handy many times.

Most people would agree that Panasonic makes good quality electronics, and I don't think the average person would be dissapointed with buying a 9 inch panasonic portable dvd player either.

Cost wise, you'r likely going to have to lay out approx. $300 for the above units.

All I can say is, if you haven't had a portable dvd player in the past...they're well worth it (my opinion). Panasonic is a decent brand and the 9 inch screen give you a large viewing size...all positives.

Astar PD-3010 6.5" Portable DVD Player

This is a nice little unit from what I've seen.

The Astar PD-3010 with built-in stereo speakers, full remote control, rechargeable battery and video/audio/earphone outputs. It plays CD,CD-R, CD-RW, DVD, DVD-RW, JPEG image CD, and MP3...so you can watch and listen to almost anything your heart desires on this Astar unit.

One great thing about this portable dvd player from Astar is that the price is almost out of this world. I just spotted it for sale at tigerdirect for just over $100. So the price can't be beat.

As always, take the time to do some research if you are looking for a portable dvd player. They can provide lots of enjoyment (and sanity for parents). In saying that as a parent, I don't let my kids sit and watch movies constantly when we travel. But when they start getting crazy...a movie is just what everyone needs to keep tempers from rising.

So far I've been quite impressed with the dual screen Venturer portable dvd player. The unit runs about $200.00 and for a player that most would consider not high-end, it turns out some good stuff.

The screens give a good picture...sound isn't great, but liveable. Most of all, if you happen to drop it...you're only out $200 and not $700.

Just finished using a Venturer - dual screen portable dvd player. It actually was a nice little unit...kids were happy with the picture....they were able to play games on the one screen, while watching a movie on the other screen.

Biggest thing lacking on this dual screen portable dvd player from Venturer was the fact that the speakers on it weren't all that great. With headphones or by using outside speakers to plug into...everything was fine. I think that's one of the biggest complaints with most portable dvd players is that the speaker quality isn't always great...but then again, I sure enjoy the option of getting to watch a movie while we travel.

I definitely think buying a "used portable dvd player" isn't the best move in the world to make. The only time it would make sense to me to by used...is if you know the person you are buying the portable dvd player from.

The thought of buying electronics (this case a portable player) used, just is scary, 'cause you just don't know what type of abuse the unit has gone through.
My thoughts are could get something used for half price, but if it stops working in a few days...your out that money plus now you still don't have a dvd player.

So...I'd stick with buying new over a used portable player, but that's just me. Not saying you can't come out ahead buying used...my personality says that's to much risk.

All them little electronic components in a used portable machine can't take to much abuse...and how a you gonna know what or who has abused it...if you go for used, let me know how it turns out.

Just my thoughts on used portable dvd player(s).

Cheap DVD Movies AND Portable DVD Players

Well if you own a portable dvd player, you need some movies and I'm all for finding cheap DVD movies to play.

Some of my favorit places for finding dvd's for the portable player are ebay and believe it or not, our local grocery store...they always seem to bring in some good old movies.

If your on the hunt for a good portable dvd player, I've suggested the samsung DVD-L1200 in my previous post...huge 12" screen, great clarity...costs a little more than the average portable player.

There are lots of great models on the market, I'm sure you'll find what your looking for.

Samsung DVD-L1200 12" Portable DVD Player

Holy Cow!

A 12 inch screen for this Samsung portable dvd player...that's like unheard of in the past. If your biggest complaint about portable dvd units is the screen size, this unit (Samsung DVD-L1200) should be the cure to your problem.

This unit is almost as big as most laptop screens...reviews say the picture quality is crystal clear too. One other really neat thing about this Samung dvd player, is that you can strap the unit upside down and it has a built in feature that will flip the picture 180 degrees. That's really neat if you have the ability to mount this unit from the roof of your vehicle.

The Samsung DVD-L1200 12", also has great reviews for the quality of sound it produces from the built in speakers. As well, it has not just two, but three built in headphone jacks.

The big downer to this unit is that it ain't cheap, in fact some people say if you hunt hard enough, you can buy a laptop for close to the same price. I think you'd have to hunt real hard, it's not quite that expensive, buth this Samsung portable dvd player is going to run you well over $500 (US).

So I think it comes down to this, if you have the spare cash kicking around and need an above sized portable dvd player, then this Samsung DVD-L1200 12"...is just what you need.

Cheap Portable DVD Players - Could Be Trouble

Not that I want to kill your desire in hopes of finding a cheap portable dvd player....but cheap isn't always a good thing.

Sometimes, especially with electronics, more is definitely better in most situations. I do believe in finding good sales on dvd players, or refurbished products portables that are cheap (discounted price).... but to buy an item that is outright the lowest price...you have to wonder if you are getting the value you want.

Not saying that you won't find a portable dvd player for cheap that meets your needs but chances are, if you spend a few more bucks up from the low end, you'll get better picture and sound from your portable dvd player.

One of the big items I hear about portable dvd players is that the sound isn't very good on them (through the built in speakers), headphones okay,
but the speakers just don't do the job. More times than not, the cheap portable players are the ones that get the poor reviews.

Take your time in finding a portable, if you can, try a few out. Guess it all depends on if you think spending a few hundred dollars is a big deal or not. For the average person I'm guessing it's enough to make you want to know you're getting a good deal.

Cheap portable dvd players are out there...but make sure it meets your needs.

Well from all reviews I've read the Samsung DVD-L70 looks like it gets the thumbs up from most users....

...the big downfall with this portable dvd player is that it doesn't put out very good sound. Which can really bit...'cause sound can really set the tone of a movie.

From what I've read this portable player gives off a good picture and has a nice sleak design. Users report that using headphones, or supplying your own external speakers, make the movie watching experience on the Samsung DVD-L70 very enjoyable.

The DVD-L70 comes with a 7" screen, which is the most common screen size these days, and plays most types of file formats (you should be good for almost anything).

The price on this unit will likely run you somewhere between $150 and $200 (American dollars).

So it sounds like if the Samsung DVD-L70 Portable DVD Player is on you list, you probably won't be disappointed picking this unit up. You may want to try one out before purchasing, just to see what the sound is truly like on the DVD-L70.

Just like almost anything else being bought today...you can get lots of accessories for your portable dvd player.

For instance you can get Portable DVD Player Accessories like:

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU!

Seeing that I'm a good old Canadian boy, I thought maybe this post would be for those on a hunt for a "portable dvd player in Canada".

Basically we here in Canada can get our hands on the same portable dvd players as those living in the US.

Obviously if you head to your big box stores like Walmart, Best Buy, Futureshop, etc. you'll be able to hunt down a dvd player that will suit your needs. But...

there are also a few places online that you can checkout for purchasing a portable dvd player, and the prices might be just as good as the big stores. So if you live in a small town, to keep from having to head into the city you may want to check out these places:

If you're not real picky and cost is the biggest issue you're concerned with, then this unit should interest you.
